We are excited to kick off our 5th Annual Celebration of Family Business at The Legacy Centre this November. The entire month will be filled with events and activities to celebrate and empower family businesses in our region to connect, grow, serve, and most importantly, live a legacy of passion and purpose. We will begin the month with #ThankaBusiness Week by taking TLC to the streets and recognizing businesses and individuals in our community who make Knoxville a better place to live and work. (Nominations are due October 30.) You also can look forward to a special edition of The Legacy Centre Speaker Series, Lunch & Learn, and more! Family firms comprise more than 80% of all business enterprises in America. Yet research shows that only 30% of all family-owned businesses survive into the second generation, 12% will still be viable into the third generation, and a mere 3% transition into the fourth generation and beyond (J. Astrachan, Family Business Review). While family-owned businesses are faced with a myriad of unique challenges that threaten their survival on a daily basis, they serve as powerful examples to other businesses who seek to not only survive, but thrive for generations to come.
