As the CEO of a nonprofit, business professor, researcher, writer, and podcaster, Dr. Lauren Pinkston has made it her mission and career to help business leaders ask the right questions to solve complex problems, because she has witnessed business to be a powerful catalyst for real change worldwide — transforming lives and some of the worst imaginable stories of extreme poverty and human trafficking into redemption and purpose.

Join us on Thursday, September 11, as Dr. Pinkston of Seed International will introduce the transformative concept of Business as Mission (BAM) — where business goes beyond profit to create lasting impact for families, communities, and generations. Drawing from global case studies and local examples, this presentation will explore how business leaders can integrate mission and meaning into their daily work, using their companies as platforms for both economic and spiritual flourishing.

Through the SPICE framework (Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, Communal, Emotional), participants will gain a practical tool to evaluate how well they are supporting the “whole person” — in themselves, their employees, and their communities. You will be inspired to see every season of business — preparation, planting, cultivating, and harvest — as an opportunity for redemptive growth. The session will close with a vision for how Knoxville business leaders can join a global movement through BAM Partners, linking arms with entrepreneurs around the world.

Meet Our Speaker:

Dr. Lauren M. Pinkston is a social scientist, entrepreneur, and former Board Chair of the Freedom Business Alliance, a global network advancing enterprise solutions to human trafficking. She has advised nonprofits, businesses, and policymakers across Asia, Africa, and the United States on creating ethical workplaces that protect psychological safety. As the co-creator of the SPICE Survey, she develops tools that equip individuals to grow across spiritual, physical, intellectual, communal, and emotional life domains. Lauren now serves on the board of SEED International, offering a blend of research, storytelling, and practical strategy to help business leaders navigate cultural divides and grow with integrity.
